- Current kitchen classroom is used for alternative ed

- Don is also helping work with the head hunting committee
Housing Committee Update
- Zoning (Jill Steele)
- What we would consider “the downtown corridor” is zoned general commercial
- Does not allow residential, any residential buildings are existing non-conforming
- Apartments above businesses in hastings (must be above 3rd floor) is called Central Buisness District (B1) in Hasitngs
- Barry twp does not have a zoning ordinance so currently follows the county and the county does not have a general commercial designation
- Under the county zoning ordinance, the best way to rezone the downtown corridor to be able to include businesses as well as residential buildings would be under mixed-use.
- There are also special land uses available if applying for a special land use permit
- Between the by-right uses and special land uses, this would enable us to get the best use of our downtown area and allow the types of development people are interested in.
- Worth looking into amending the zoning of the corridor, we just need to determine what we want to achieve before we look into drafting the ordinance amendment.
- What we would consider “the downtown corridor” is zoned general commercial
- Barry County Rehab Programs
- Need to determine the direction of the organization before digging into use of those programs.
- Blight Elimination Programs Available for residential (no tear down ok) and commercial (tear down ok)
- DDA (Marsha)
- Chatting with community members about it to see if they can get steam going again on starting it
- Need to have a business in the area in order to get a DDA going so none of us are eligible to start it up.
