Revitalize Delton Board Meeting April 11, 2024

Called to Order at 6:34 by Marsha Bassett, President

In attendance: Marsha Bassett, Dewey McCoy, Chris Zuzga, Allie Rouse, Sarah Sandell, Jill Steele, Ashly Goldsworthy 

Absent: Marie Ferris, Don Perry 

 

Strategic Plan

-       Affirm mission and vision, go back over 3 main areas of focus

-       Re-do committee structure and then make an action plan within each committee 

o   Board representation in all committees 

-       Vision Statement: Where do we want to go and what do we want to be

-       Mission statement: what we will do to get there (vision statement) 

-       Discussion on Vision Statement

o   Want to include school - Marsha

o   Want to enrich life for current residents and encourage people to stay around- Allie 

o   Want to encourage economic growth by offering a healthy and enriched community – Sarah 

o   Want to attract young families to the school – Dewey

-       Discussion on Committee Structure/focus areas

o   Recreation focus area

§  Parks and rec and gyms, etc.

o   Economic development 

§  Business development, support, etc.

o   Community Engagement 

§  Events (festivals, community events, etc)

§  Encouraging residents to get move involved in the community

§  Get live music in the park back up and going

o   Education 

§  How involved do we want to be and how do we want to go about that 

·      Be there to support school board 

·      Make the community more attractive as a total school district 

·      Need to engage with the school district

§  Housing incentives for new teachers (future goal) through community foundation

o   Broadband Access 

§  Possible grants available?

-       Want to focus on attracting young people to stay and/or come back to Delton and want to enrich the lives of community members and make this a community people are proud to be with.  

-       Need to make sure we get together on and get our input in for rezoning in the county 

 

Feasibility Study 

-       Main focus for trip up from the feasibility study 

o   Barry Bowers 

o   Christy Tiggchelaar 

o   Drew Chapple 

o   Chamber of Commerce representative 

-       Getting update this week on status of study 

-       Need roughly $5,000 more to pay for it 

o   Marie is heading up a fundraiser with scrap metal 

o   Possible fundraiser in the works from Marsha (raffle?) 

 

Fund Raising 

-       Corporate sponsors (local businesses helping to sponsor the project)

-       Grants available to small communities are coming up but we need to get a grant writer on board 

o   Need to identify resources for partners 

§  Some grants are available to only governmental agencies so we need to work with partners (county, townships) to apply with them 

o   Some grants are available to non profits 

o   The corridor study that is being done at the county level in august will also come with 

o   A lot of grants also require match money so we need to have our own funds being raised

o   Want to be intentional about asking for money, so want to have fund raisers only when we have specific projects or goals that we are funding

Projects

Rec Center – update from Julie Aukerman 

-       Working with lots of people who want to do certain programs

-       Working with the school to get the space needed for this

 

Feasibility Study 

-       Getting update from Dewey this week 

-       Get money for balance 

o   Reconvene after Marie’s Fundraiser 

o   Will reach back out to MEI 

o   Have seed money from BCF left that we can use 

o   Appealing to the board at the 11th hour if need be

 

Strategic Plan

-       Chris is getting a working document together and we will hopefully ratify at the next meeting 

 

Board Member Recruiting 

-       Will think on who we might be interested in joining our Revitalize Delton board that may represent interests of the school (teacher, administrator, school board member)
