Revitalize Delton General Meeting 5/9/24

Revitalize Delton Community Project Regular Meeting  - 5/9/24


 

Marsha started meeting at 6:37pm

Please save questions and discussion for after the updates so we can be sure to make it through everything and have meaningful discussion at the end of the meeting. 


 

1. Update on Feasibility Study 

  • It is our goal to have the draft document to you by the end of May.  I realize that this is a bit later than expected but we felt it prudent to utilize 1st Quarter 2024 sales and pricing numbers vs. year-end 2023. 
    • Last minute questions, please email Jerry McCoy
    • Need funding, final balance of $4500-$5000 will be due at the completion of the study

2. Update on Scrap Metal Drive - Thank you Marie Ferris!

  • First bin was $375 and that has been picked up and the check has been written 
  • Second bin is half full. We won’t know the total until the bin is picked up and weighed by the company. Located behind the Library
    • Encourage people to clean out their garages and take things to the bin behind the library.


 

4. Update on Recreation Programming

  • We are working on getting some summer recreation programing going
  • If anyone is a certified instructor and interested in getting involved, reach out to Allie Rouse or Julie Aukerman. arouse@revitalizedelton.org


 

5. Workshop Strategic Plan - Community Input

  • Chris Zuzga is heading the development of our strategic plan
    • Working on mission, vision, values
      • Want to include school
      • Want to enrich life for current residents and encourage people to stay around
      • Want to encourage economic growth by offering a healthy and enriched community 
      • Want to attract young families to the school
      • Increase housing  
    • Redoing the committee structure
      • Parks/Recreation
      • Economic Development
      • Community Engagement
      • Education - Maybe change the name to Education Support
      • Housing
      • Broadband Access
    • Fundraising
      • Find someone who specializes in grant writers
        • Work with Rotary, School, and Revitalize Delton?
        • Build in the grant writers fee into the grant 
        • Kathy knows a couple individuals who have offered to write grants 

6.Barry Bower - Barry Township Update- 

  • Township is going to go green, off grid solar, for the water tower to run the electricity for the water tower. Federal tax rebate 30% off the top of the cost, EGLE $100,000 grant towards cost. Coming in under budget for the whole project. 
  • May 18th - 9:00 am Clean up at the park (William-Smith) if you're willing to volunteer
  • Would like to add a running path soon

7. Nicole Lyke - Barry County Chamber -

  • Corridor study, 4 part
    • Community engagement
      • Kickoff meeting complete
      • Draft of goals, strategy, and resources review meeting pending
      • Final Rural economic development strategy review meeting pending
    • Data Collection and Analysis
      • Public and private data collection complete
      • Community survey complete
      • Community survey analysis near complete
    • Economic Strategy Document
      • Economic Strategy report underway
      • Promotional/marketing fact sheets pending
    • Implementation Matrix Pending
  • All will happen quickly once the data is collected and complete (August) 
    • Randall at Antero Group

8. Delton Kellogg Schools

  • Superintendent is being seeked out
  • Candidate in mind for Elementary Principle
  • Candidate in mind for High School
    • Very confident that things will be moving forward positively
  • Agriscience Program coming to Delton (Past called Delton FFA Program)

9. Marsha Basset - DKEF -

  • 17th is Senior tribute
    • Give out all the scholarships
    • $130,000 in scholarships
    • Approx 29 scholarships
    • Giving out Renewable scholarships for the 1st time
  • Talking to local community colleges about buying 2 year degrees to giveaway to students
  • Just had annual Gala at Pierce Cedar Creek 
    • Over $20,000 raised
  • DKEF gives away more scholarships than any other school district
    • Trades and College
  • $80,000+ - Classroom grants given

  • Broadband - Invite David Stoll to the next meeting. 
  • Federal funding program to allocate broadband - frustration with getting proper broadband services. Barry County has 9,000 addresses that are unserved or underserved. A lot of Delton and Woodland addresses. 
  • Marsha is running for County Commissioner for District 6
  • Prairieville, Orangeville, and South part of Yankee Springs
